With the creating of safety management systems comes the need to review those systems on a regular basis. Our principal consultant developed a program of auditing for all Air Force units (144) using AS/NZS 4801. The results of the annual audits were analysed and reported to the senior executive for action where appropriate. Outlying results were reviewed by the initiation of verification audits from within the staff team for the top and bottom five units with the intent to confirm the results of the self assessments.
