CSI was contracted to Defence to review the proposed harmonised safety laws and provide a report to Defence management on their impact and to recommend the Defence responses related to the Defence output in support of the nation. Recommendations for word changes, a continuation of certain exemptions related to military operations were provided to Safe Work Australia who drafted the legislation. Work was also undertaken to inform Defence management on the impact of legislation, particularly as it would apply to all workers and not just the joint heads of the Department and the ADF – Legislation had become personal and not managed under vicarious liability. The submissions were made on behalf of Defence and the submission accepted by Safe Work Australia.
