Following a series of deaths in dental technicians in the USA Military it was decided by the Department of Defence to review the use of silica in products and blasting bead media in Australian Defence Force Dental Laboratories. The contract required review of products used in the creation of dentures and the blast media used to shape denture products. Policies and procedures were created to guide the future use of silica based products in the DAF.
